The sound of EBI (by the Blue Jays)
In a world full of sensory stimulation, where our senses work in harmony to shape our experiences, the idea of limiting ourselves to just one sense may seem counterintuitive. However, a group of curious children from Early Birds Kindergarten recently embarked on an exciting project that highlighted the power of sound as a medium for memories. Their endeavor resulted in a remarkable sound file called "The sound of EBI," which captured recordings of sounds from their beloved kindergarten.
The project aimed to explore the importance of all our senses of the body and how focusing on a single sense can intensify the experience. Try it yourself, close your eyes and listen to all the sounds that you hear around you. You’ll be surprised how much is actually going on around you. And it’s never really completely silent, is it? Especially in a city like Istanbul.
So, our 4-6 year age group, the Blue Jays, decided to go on an adventure to capture the sounds that define our kindergarten. From the crunching sound of stepping on wood chips, over the creaking sound of opening and closing doors to the well-known chime of the tidy-up bell, every sound was preserved with the help of their teachers.
The result was a mesmerizing compilation of sounds that forms the backdrop of the children’s life at Early Birds. The Sound of EBI became more than just an auditory experience; it became an important memory souvenir. Listening to the sound file allows the children to embark on a journey back to their cherished moments in the kindergarten.
The power of the project lies in the ability of sound to evoke vivid images and emotions, even without the aid of visuals. The giggles of their friends instantly transport them to carefree playtimes, while the clinking of dishes takes them back to lunch-time conversation.
The Sound of EBI serves as a reminder of their early childhood, enabling them to relive their memories. As the years pass and the children grow older, they can always revisit their sound file. This project has not only fostered a deep appreciation for the power of sound, but it also gave the children a sense of gratitude for the multisensory world we live in.
In a world that often seems dominated by visual stimuli, these kids' audio creation shows how equally important sound is, not to mention our other 3 senses, smell, taste and touch. It reminds us to stop and listen, to enjoy the sounds of life around us. By keeping their kindergarten memories as an audio file, these kids have made a special, lasting memory.
Now, enjoy the audio journey through our EBI nest.
Can you recognize all the sounds that we collected?
